New Messaging Feature ‘XChat’ Launching on X

XChat messaging feature
On the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), users can not only share various information but also send direct messages to specific individuals. Messages sent through Direct Message (DM) are encrypted, meaning they are coded in a way that ensures only the intended recipient can read them, keeping the conversation secure. Now, the platform is preparing to launch a new messaging feature called “XChat” to enhance direct communication.
The new messaging feature is being considered an upgraded version of X’s previous Direct Messaging system. According to tech analyst Nima Owji, the XChat feature is fully ready and could be rolled out on a wider scale soon. XChat will allow users not only to exchange messages but also to access features like group chats, file sharing, marking messages as unread, and using a “vanishing mode.” Messages on this new service will reportedly be protected with a four-digit passcode for added security.
According to X, the new “XChat” feature has been made available in beta for select users as part of a trial rollout. This means a limited group of users can now try the new messaging tool. With the launch of XChat, the messaging experience is expected to become more secure and modern.
Recently, X announced that development on the current encrypted Direct Messaging (DM) system has been temporarily paused. As a result, tech analysts believe that once XChat is officially launched, the old DM system will likely become obsolete.
